History
Bill Canfield began working in the post frame industry in 1985 as a laborer/carpenter for a contractor in southeast Wisconsin. A quick learner, Bill found that he had a passion for the business. Within three months, he became the lead man with a crew of his own. The leadership skills that he learned in the military along with the work ethic he acquired from growing up on a northern Wisconsin dairy farm, all played a key role in his quick rise to foreman status.
Most of the buildings at that time were still agricultural machine sheds with some backyard garages and an occasional commercial building. Bill was amazed at the versatility of post frame construction and anticipated the growing need people have for personal storage space. Bill began to develop the values he would bring to his own business; not only is doing a quality job of craftsmanship important to a customer, but so is keeping a jobsite clean, showing up on time, keeping promises, and communicating with the customer throughout the building process.
Soon, Bill saw a need to take these aspects of customer service to a new level, so in the fall of 1990 he launched Canfield Buildings. As Bill envisioned, the post frame industry has continually evolved through code changes, engineered columns, and the use of brick, stone, and other architectural finishes. Today’s customers seek a building that is personally designed to meet their specific use and needs while matching the other buildings on their property, or to make a positive statement in the community. Customers are requesting total turnkey solutions and Canfield Buildings has geared up its design and building team to meet those needs and will continue to improve and add to these services into the future.
